No, this post is not about the
popular 90′s TV show on Nickelodeon. Hey Dude Skin Care creates products designed specifically for men. While many cleaning products will work for both genders, Hey Dude’s focus on men has resulted in products that have fewer overall ingredients and are generally odorless, resulting in straightforward products that are easy to use and understand. Arguably, a lot of men don’t treat their skin with more than soap while in the shower, and Hey Dude’s mission is to teach men that by taking care of their skin regularly, they’ll look younger for longer. Here, I review two of their facial cleansers, Dude Wash and Clean Skin.
Dude Wash glycolic cleanser
A straightforward facial cleaner, Dude Wash is easy to apply before bedtime to help get the daily grit and grease off. The glycolic acid works as a gentle exfoliator, so it’ll help diminish any pimples you have and make your skin feel fresher and softer. While the ingredient list is simple, the cleanser works well and is easy to apply, without the harshness of using plain soap (or the residue). I actually felt “clean” immediately after using it, which was a surprisingly nice way to go to bed! It’s slightly blue in color, and I put a dime-sized amount in my palm and applied it to my nose, forehead, temples, and upper cheeks with the fingers in my other hand. A little bit goes a long way. I then simply rinsed it off with water, and dried my face, so there’s no complicated ritual. My wife noticed immediate results (which is true for most cleansers) but it lasted longer than simple soap with less skin redness.
Clean Skin
Similar to the Dude Wash, this cleanser does not contain glycolic acid and puts more emphasis on the seaweed extract. I didn’t expect there to be much difference, but a few minutes after using Clean Skin the skin on my face started to gently tighten. Not in an unpleasant way, of course, but unlike using Dude Wash, which made my face comfortably dry and oil-free, Clean Skin made my face smoother without so much emphasis on my pores, visually. I personally would use this as a mid-day cleanser or before going out at night, to get rid of any dirt or grease that’s built up — without that really-clean, dried out look. In other words, Clean Skin is great if you want to freshen your face without looking like you intentionally washed up, as its results are more natural-looking.
Currently Hey Dude products are only available direct from the company. Clean Skin currently sells for $18, while Dude Wash goes for $23. Since only a small amount is used, the bottles will last a while, and while it’s not as cheap as a bar of Dove, it’s undoubtedly better for your skin.
