Hello again! It’s Ivy from Jeweled Thumb. I was recently sent a few items from Motives Cosmetics Summer 2010 Collection and today I’ll be reviewing the Social Butterfly Trend Kit. All of these eyeshadows are shades in Motives Cosmetics regular line of shades, which generally retail in individual compacts for $12 – but for summer, Motives Cosmetics is offering 3 different trend palettes containing 5 eyeshadows and a bottle of their Mine Eau de Parfum for $49.95.
I had never heard of the Motives Cosmetics line before so I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was very impressed with the quality of the eyeshadows.
Social Butterfly contains “earth-tones and glamorous gold with just enough sparkle” according to the Motives website and features the following shades: Bronze Beauty, Green Tea, Sunkissed, Hazelnut, Goddess. Personally, the only thing missing from this palette for me was a highlight shade (since I’m quite pale and cool-toned, I can’t get away with using any sort of golds on the brow bone).
The Social Butterfly palette contains 2 Pearlized (Bronze Beauty, Sunkissed), 2 Shimmer (Green Tea, Hazelnut) and 1 Glitter (Goddess) shade as described on the Motives Cosmetics website. I found most of the colors easy to work with especially Bronze Beauty (copper) and Sunkissed (peachy gold) which went on like butter and were super pigmented and metallic. Green Tea (goldish khaki) and Hazelnut (brown infused with gold shimmer) were not quite as soft but were easily built up and I’d say of medium pigment and slightly less metallic than the Pearlized shades. The only one I wasn’t a fan of was Goddess, aptly named as a glitter shade, was basically gold glitter in a very light gold base.
The palette also contains 2 double-ended sponge tip applicators and a wide mirror for travel (I personally used my own brushes for application). I like the Motives logo on the outside of the palette and a window to view the shades.
I tested the shadows out and they lasted through my 9+ hour work day and out in the Maryland humidity with a primer. Here’s a quick eye of the day that I did using Sunkissed and Hazelnut. The shadows blended easily and retained their pigment and metallic quality throughout the day.
All in all, I was quite impressed with the shades I tested, and would recommend the Motives palette for those with a warm complexion!
Motives Cosmetics eyeshadows are Gluten Free, Paraben Free, fragrance and oil free and are not tested on animals. The full range, including the Summer Trend Kits can be purchased at the Motives Cosmetics website.

Since I am warm toned, this is my favorite collection. There are so many ways to create fabulous eyes from one palette! You only have to bring this when you travel and save a lot of space in your carry on. Love it!!!
This is a great summer palette for medium skin tones. The hazelnut shade makes the perfect under eye liner when applied with a liner brush and can be applied wet or dry. As I am a fair skinned girl also, I purchased the palette and replaced the Goddess shade with Crème Fresh (116MES), a Motives color I already owned, which made this the perfect where anywhere palette.
I love the shadows and they last forever (highly pigmented) I also love that you can create your own pallette from the more than 70 shades. Use an eyebase or one of our creme shadows for more depth and they also last a long time and wear for hours and hours. The makeup finishing sprays are also amazing the mascara does not flake. I used to lose eyelashes with other brands.
