I have to admit, when I first received the Hair Mask Thickener by BeverlyD, I was skeptical. Not because of what it claims to do for your hair, but rather wondering how it would affect my own! I already have pretty thick hair, and the thought of making it even thicker is a bit frightening. But, as I read more about what this product has to offer, I was definitely game to try it.
Here is a bit of background info on BeverlyD:

BeverlyD has been working with hair since the age of 10. In her teens, she was taking food and creating beauty potions for skin and hair. After many successful years of salon experience, and thousands of clients, she has put together a hair care line made of only plant and food materials that remedies many challenges from fine, flat, oily hair to dry, frizzy, reactive hair, and all others in between, to create BeverlyD Hair and Body Care.
I decided to use this product over the course of two weeks to get a full understanding of how it would affect my hair over the course of a few uses. I don’t wash my hair everyday, and conditioning is one of the most important parts of my hair styling process.
My hair type is thick, wavy/borderline curly, and pretty long. I wear it either naturally wavy with a small amount of product, and allow it to air dry, or I will blow dry it and straighten it with the help of a round brush and a flat iron to smooth the flyaways. Point being – my hair does almost anything I tell it to, but if the wrong product is used, it turns into a nightmare. A thick, frizzy, tangled mess. I have been known to return multiple products should my hair hate them!
All that said, this product has been awesome. Based on the description, this it what it is designed for:
* Thickens the shaft immediately upon use with proteins
* Continued use will thicken and encourage hair growth
* Great for men and thinning hair when used in conjunction with the shampoo
* Contains no artificial or synthetic ingredients or alcohol
Now, although I don’t need the thickening, the fact that it is made of organic ingredients and uses proteins to strengthen hair and encourage growth, I was excited to see how my hair would respond. It responded amazingly! It appears that the product can be used as a conditioner as well as a thickener, which is how I chose to test it out.
The first thing that I noticed was the heavenly smell. It smelled almost like I was baking oatmeal cookies while taking a shower and it took every fathom of my being to not take a quick taste…. ok, just kidding, but you catch my drift. It smells delicious with hints of cinnamon or nutmeg (or something very similar). The consistency is interesting. It is not as slick like a conditioner, and felt like it held to my hair a lot better than many other products I have tried. I let it sit for a few minutes and then rinsed.
One of the first tests of a product’s effectiveness as a conditioning agent is to see how it detangles my hair. I know this product is not necessarily meant to be a conditioner, but it definitely worked just fine in this capacity. I was easily able to get the brush through my hair while it was wet, (which is huge for me), and after a couple uses, I noticed a significant change in my hair.
The first thing I noticed was the reduction of flyaways and frizz. My hair felt really soft and my waves looked fantastic. I had not seen them look this great in a long time! The product left my hair feeling healthy and soft, something I think we are all after! The concern about my hair becoming too thick was totally unfounded. Instead I feel like it has made each strand of hair happier and stronger, which I can see would help thicken hair on those that may have more fine or damaged hair.
All in all, I am a huge fan of this product, and it has totally won me over. It also taught me that I shouldn’t always shy away from thickening agents on my hair, despite already having thick hair! I would highly recommend trying this product. I think you will find it to be a wonderful addition to your hair care products and I look forward to trying more from BeverlyD, she has won my heart over!
