Those of us with allergies to the common preservatives used in skin and eye care products know how difficult it can be to find truly preservative-free skin and eye care products. Avène’s Tolérance Extrême comes in a novel packaging design which keeps any bacteria or mold from getting into the bottle when you use the cream, thus eliminating the need for preservatives that can trigger allergies. Also, Tolérance Extrême doesn’t contain any surfactants or detergents that can irritate sensitive skin.
While I don’t have very sensitive skin I have had issues with allergies to eye care products, so ladies and gents out there with delicate skin know that you have my sympathies! However, since I don’t usually have problems with skin sensitivity I can’t evaluate this product on those claims, but I can tell you how well it moisturizes.
This special sterile packaging for Tolérance Extrême is essentially a very fancy cap, which they call the “highly-technical, patented D.E.F.I (Device for Exclusive Formula Integrity)”. The design of the cap keeps the product flowing one way, so contaminants can’t get back into the bottle. This moisturizer feels quite light going on and stays feeling light. It has a soft and pleasant fresh scent, which must come from the integral components of the moisturizer since it contains no additional perfume.
Tolérance Extrême lasts longer than my usual moisturizers – I could still feel the effects on my face several hours later. It performed admirably when put to my ultimate dry skin test – the elbows – keeping my skin feeling smooth all day. However, if you have oily skin you may find that the staying power of Tolérance Extrême is too much and may leave you feeling a little greasy.
